Arrange a clinician's explanation of your results. A value outside the reference range does not, by itself, confirm a disease.
Receive the full report
- Request test names, values, units, reference ranges and dates. Tell the clinician about symptoms, medicines and earlier results.
- Ask which results are still pending, when they are expected and whom to contact if they do not arrive.
Interpret results with a clinician
- Use the range on your own report. Different laboratories may use different methods and units, so numbers may not be directly comparable.
- A result within the range does not rule out every health problem. Ask what the findings mean together with your symptoms and history.
Agree on follow-up
- Ask whether you need urgent assessment, another test or a later appointment. Get a specific time and contact for the next step.
- If symptoms worsen, seek medical help instead of waiting for the final report. Confirm how pending results will reach you after departure.
